The Illustration Level 2: Entertainment Arts certificate provides students with the skillset to create concepts and illustrations for the entertainment industry including video games, film, and television. Students must complete the Illustration Level 1 certificate first requiring a total of 18 units and courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher. Focusing on visual communication and world building, students will generate a professional portfolio showcasing strong character design, perspective, props, and keyframes showcasing strong draftsmanship techniques for employment in the entertainment industry.
Students who successfully complete the program will be able to:
- Generate new story concepts and visuals
- Communicate story beats with clear visual narration
- Demonstrate the synthesis of story, style, character, location, emotion, and symbology in compositional studies
- Clearly communicate character and emotion visually
- Utilize quick study drawing skills through visual notes and personal studies as a basis for planning larger extended works of art.
- Create original concepts that interpret a new visual world.
With this certificate, students will have gained the skillset necessary to pursue entry-level employment for a career path within the following job descriptions: Art director, Visual Development lead, Concept artist, Industrial designer, Costume designer, Environment design artist, Lighting/Color Key designer, Automotive design, Storyboard artist, and Toy design.
