This program provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to empower students with essential independent living skills. Through focused instruction, students will cultivate proficiency in areas such as community engagement, self-advocacy, and social interaction. This holistic approach equips students to confidently define personal life goals and effectively apply learned skills toward greater autonomy. Key topics explored will include navigating community resources, asserting personal needs and rights, and accessing vital community information. Upon completion of this local program, students will earn a Local Certificate in Independent Living Skills.
Program Learning Outcomes
The goals of the Independent Living Skills local certificate program encompass the content of courses in the sequence, community need, and the missions of Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) and the CCCCO. After completing the Independent Living Skills local program, students will:
- Be prepared to recognize and access relevant community resources.
- Be able to advocate for personal needs and rights.
- Be able to identify procedures for responding to independent living situations.
- Be prepared to identify community regulations and emergency numbers/procedures.
