The academic discipline of Art History involves the study of visual objects as both works of art and as artifacts of the historical and cultural contexts in which they were created. The Associate in Arts in Art History for Transfer (AA-T) will provide the student with a solid foundation in both European and global art and visual culture from the periods of pre–history through modern and contemporary. The degree program requires students to critically analyze visual objects from a variety of perspectives, utilizing various modes of analysis.
To earn an Associate in Arts in Art History for Transfer a student must complete 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the CSU that consist of the Cal-GETC pattern and a major of at least 18 units. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework to receive an associate degree for transfer and all courses in the major must be completed with a C or better. Students earning an associate degree for transfer will not be required to complete any other local graduation requirements. A “P” (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a Pass or No Pass basis.

Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program:
- Students will demonstrate the ability to critically analyze visual objects as works of art.
- Students completing a course in "Area C: Arts" will be able to analyze modes of artistic expression.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to critically analyze visual objects as artifacts of visual culture from a variety of perspectives, utilizing various modes of analysis.
- Student completing an assignment will be able to identify the influence of culture on human expression.
